MONDAY 7th MAY 2012 TWO ENGAGEMENTS TODAY THE FIRST ONE AT THE HIVE FOR THEIR STREET PARTY AND THE SECOND WAS WITH THE MENCAP GROUP FOR THEIR DISCO FUNDRAISING EVENING IN AID OF AN ORPHANAGE IN MALAWI
THE HIVE STREET PARTY
Today we visited the Hive in Shrewsbury for their annual Bank Holiday fun Street Party, due to the chance of rain the Maypole was left indoors and not in use pity as I enjoyed that last year, but there was plenty more going on both inside and outdoors in the street.
There were two drum bands and I am pleased to say that they didnt get me doing any this time and I am sure that the crowds were glad I didnt either. There was plenty for all ages to do and we spent nearly three hours there before we had to leave for our next engagement.
Above we see people making small windmills (not for windpower) but they still turned and were environmetally friendly and the kids just loved them, one note to hard for me to make.
Above, anyone who follows my blog will remember Tricia and Mydelf playing with this band at the Hive a few months ago. It was fun and I was tempted to try it again but I could only get worse so I decided not to and to leave it to others a wise choice me thinks. MENCAP CLUB FUNDRAISING DISCO
Tonight we went to the old Perkins Club now Reman Club. The Mencap disco raised around £150 for an Orphanage in Malawi and one of Shrewsbury Town Football Clubs Community team was there to receive the cheque sas he was travelling out there to take some football gear for the kids as Malawi is still a very poor country and has a very high HIV status leaving many youngsters without parents.
Above the presentation of the cheque to Dave from the Greenhous Meadow Community team. We had sauasge and chips and I had a pint of Speckled Hen. We had a raffle but again I did not win anything. We all had a great night and it was all to soon to leave and head off home.
WEDNESDAY 9th MAY 2012 THREE ENGAGEMENT TODAY SO NO PRESSURE
OTTLEY HOUSE CARE HOME EVENT WEST MID SHOW GROUND
Our first engagement of the day is to the West Mid Show Ground where Barchester who owns Ottley House Care home as well as one on the Mount in Shrewsbury were holding a fundraising event. They even had a helicoper from RAF Shawbury and once again it was a Navy pilot who brought it in, so I got to sit in the seat that I sat in when I had my fantastic flight a couple of weks ago. It was a big draw for the people there.
All aound the ring were stalls from various companies who were showing what they could offer such as training to face painting stall. A real mix plus a choir as well as food plants and coffee (real coffee) stall. But alas I had to leave as we had tea in the castle at 2pm. TEA IN THE CASTLE OUR LAST ONE
Today’s tea in the Castle was the last one in our Mayoral Year and with a little sadness we brewed up and asked a couple who were looking around the castle to have tea with us. There was a group of about twenty students also in the castle but I could not get them all in the Mayors Parlour so did not ask them. The couple who we did ask came from North Wales and liked the town so much that they were going to change their return rail ticket for another day so that they could get to see and feel the atmosphere of our town some more. Really pleased me to hear them say that.
Above our last picture in the Mayors Parlour as Mayor so it is a rather special picture for us. It was then time for the castle to close so we cleared up and went off home.
MAYORAL AWARDS EVENING
This evening was a special night for the guests that we entertained at the Guildhall, as it was time for me to reward the many people of our great town from all walks of life from individuals to companies. The awards were for what they had done and what we had seen whilst in our Mayoral Year. It was really good to see that many of the awards went to young people and new businesses.
I will be making a special page soon with a full pictorial of the evening with all of the winners shown, but for now I am posting just a few to show what it looked like on the night.
I promise that they will all be shown once I can edit and resize the pictures on my disc taken on the night.
THURSDAY 10th MAY 2012
During the day I had my Shropshire Council hat on as it was the Central Planning Committee day I went on site visits in the morning and then sat on the planning committee in the afternoon finishing around 16.00hrs. Many people do not realise that I have to continue with my normal Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury Town Council duties as much as I can as well as carrying out my Mayoral duties.
BRIDGNORTH MAYOR MAKING AT FULL COUNCIL
Tonight saw us attending the Bridgnorth Full Council Meeting where the new Mayor of Bridgnorth was elected. It was conducted in the Town Hall and what a fantastic stetting for Mayor making or any meeting if it comes to that. Afterwards there was refreshments in the hall just down the road where it gave us all a chance to get to know the new Mayor and catch up with old friends, a real chain gang of Mayors attended.

We arrived home after 22.30hrs tired and yet we knew that we had a busy three days ahead before we handed over the Mayoral Chain.
