RAF DAY IN THE SQUARE WITH 1119 SQUADRON AIR CADETS ON PARADE FOLLOWED IN THE EVENING BEING ENTERTAINED BY THE HALFWAY HOUSE MALE VOICE CHOIR AT St ALKMUNDS CHURCH
1119 SQUADRON ON PARADE IN THE SQUARE WITH THE ROYAL AIR FORCE ASSOCIATION
First engagement of the day was to the Square in Shrewsbury for an RAF awareness event. Here on parade were our old friends the Air Cadets from 1119 Squadron. After they had paraded and played a number of tunes really well I must add I was invited to inspect those on parade. Below is a pictorial of our morning and I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed being there with them on the day.
They put on a truly fantastic display in the Square and many people stopped and watched them as they did their parade in a way that I hope some youngsters there will call in at Copthorne and maybe join 119 Squadron. Also in the Square to help raise funds was the Raoyal Air Force Association display vehicle.
The weather was not great it was cold but it kept mainly dry so nobody had to get wet, so that was a great releif to all. We then had to leave.
HALFWAY HOUSE MALE VOICE CHOIR IN St ALKMUNDS CHURCH
When we arrived I had a shock as when I looked at the choir I realise that there were a number of faces known to me and I never knew that they evan sang let alone were part of a male voice choir. Brian Goodwin was the director of music and I have to say that the choir sang really well and entertained us all.
Shrewsbury Handbells were also on the bill and they are really something else, what they did was truly fantastic, even Martin Wood could not compete, he had to put his bell away. If you have never heard them then please look out for when they next do a show, both Tricia and myself are real fans of the Shrewsbury Handbells having listened to them a few times now and can’t wait for their next event.
At the interval there was an assortment of lovely food and drinks mostly made by Tootes Julie Wenlock, also master of the night was no other than Chris Pritchard Shropsire Live fame.
Even though the turnout was low we had a fantastic evening and all that I will say is to those who did not go is that you missed something really special, so maybe when the next choral evening that the Shrewsbury Carnival put on you will make the effort to go, you will not regret it.
