My evening was spent in the company of members of 119 suadron Air Cadets. As many who read my blog will know that out two Equerries were memebers of 119 squadron, one of our equerries Holly Brown (Flight Sgt) has since left 119 Squadron and has gone on to Uni, the other equerry is Craig Bellis who is still there and is a Warrent Officer within the unit.
When I arrived I was escorted to my seat by a Cadet and we were all entertained by the band of 119 Squadron, afterwards the Squadren Leader gave a short talk, introduced me and I said a few words. I was then taken on a tour of their base and took part in a few testing things such as flying a plane on a computor trying to land it at RAF Cosford. Yes I landed right side up but along the runway on the grass, ok I crashed, I will stick with Typhoons in future a much easier plane to fly and I aint crashed one of those yet.
Below is a pictorial of my time with 119 Squadron, so please take the time to look at themand if any young person in Shrewsbury would like a challenge plese contact 119 and go along join them.
This takes me back a while! Me thinks he aint going to make it through the night.
Many hands make light work, or to many cooks spoil the broth, not sure what this comes under. Just slide him under the table, no one will notice. This actually was a very important demo and I think that all young people should be given First Aid courses at school. It does save live. Pleased to see training on first aid given at 1119 squadron.
When asked have you flown an aircraft before sir, I stated only one of the new Typhoons their eye popped open, wow well you must try this its really easy sir Heeh! Ok then.
There see sitting back relaxed, you dont want to see any more. If you must then.
See really easy flying you know, I could fly around all night long simple, nothing to it.
See the runway straight ahead, at least I found one to land on, oh is that what that lever does, have to remember that.
Mayday Mayday…. More like pancake day….Medic Medic…..Help oh dear where am I. Thanks pal for telling me I crashed I know I did, ah well my street cred has gone if I had any in the first place. Now where was that first aid girl?
Whats that I see is it a cup of coffee. You always know there will be a room with drinks in somewhere at these places, finding it is the skill you need. So now hone my vibes and follow the crowd.
A skill practiced from an early age and it always works, all that flying make to mouth a tad dry.
Thank you for asking Squadron Leader, my back and pride are healing well after the crash, my word does travel fast around this place, a nice cup of hot coffee works wonders.
Ah an Enfield 303 now that brings back some fond memories is this one the one you always use yorself.
Converted to .22 but still a really nice rifle, this one made in 1949 I see.
I had a 303 made in 1942, and issued in 1945 that never fired a round in anger, so thank you for allowing me to have a really good look at it and have one in my hands again.
What better way could you have a good time, meet people, make new friends and learn loads. So call in and see them they are always on the lookout for new faces to join and they will soon make you feel welcome.
Squadron Leader thank you for allowing me to visit you and meet the Cadets and I hope that through my blog you get a few more young people wishing to join. It has been a fantastic evening and your Cadets are a credit to you and the Squadron.
