Today we attended the service of thanksgiving for the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. This year is as we all know is a special year for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II her Diamond Anniversary Year.
In 1947 on her 21st Birthday 21st April the then Princess Elizabeth said whilst speaking in Cape Town these words. “I declare before you all that my whole life, wheather it will be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great..family to which we all belong… God help me to make good my vow and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.”
I for one am thankful that Her Majesty not only has had and still enjoying a long life, she has also devoted much of her life to the role of our Queen and it is an honour to be counted as one of her subjects.
The sudden passing of her father transported her into becoming our head of State far quicker than anyone would or could have imagined. She has always led by her fine example and with the constant modern media looking for any slip she has held together her family and the Country. May long her reign continue.
Our Service in St Alkmunds was a fitting service, short to the point and attended by The Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire Algernon Heber-Percy Esq and his wife, The Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire Col. Edmund Thewles OBE DL and his wife, The High Sheriff of Shropshire Richard Burbidge OBE. Richard Burbidge OBE and his wife, The Chairman of Shropshire Council Cllr Malcolm Pate, Major S J Cuthbert ACF and his wife plus the Mayor and Mayoress of Shrewsbury plus a number of other guests and worshipers. The service was conducted by The Revd Richard Hayes resident priest and the Vicar of St Chads Revd Mark Thomas. Also in attendance were two buglers from the Shrewsbury Army Cadet Force.
CIVIC SERVICE NEXT SUNDAY 12th February 3pm
My Civic Service will be held on the 12th February 2012 at 3pm in Shrewsbury Abbey and I can now say followed by tea at the Shropshire Wildlife Trust Centre Abbey Foregate. If you are planning on coming to the service please make sure that you let the Mayors Secretary Carol Pullen know by either phoning her on 01743 257655 or return the bottom part of the invitation if you have one. The church does have a limit and it will be nice if we can fill every seat in there.
