IT TURNED OUT BEING A FULL DAY OF MEETINGS
Mayoral duties do not always include opening/visiting shops or attending high profile public engagements, many a day it means meeting people in the Mayors Parlour or at their offices. Today was a tour of various venues and agendas. It was just as rewarding as any engagement the Mayorality attends. So after the normal phone calls etc I have to make each morning before I can start my day, I headed out.

The first meeting was held within the Conference and Education Centre, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, for a meeting of an Almalgamated Charity, made up of the Shropshire Welfare Trust, the Thompson Pritchard Trust and the Dr Gardeners Charity, where the Mayor is an ex officio Trustee. This Charity meets twice a year and it was a real eye opener in what they do.
The Almalgamated Charity was set up by a Board of Management of the Royal Shrewsbury Infirmary in 1948. The Trust was formed from donations to help poor convalescent patients from the RSI and associated hospitals. It was also to be used for the ‘sick poor’ of the County. Charities and organisations caring for the’sick poor’ can also be added but there are strict guidelines and conditions for this. Referals are principally from Hospital social workers (including social workers from Hospices, Citizens Advice Bureau, organisations helping the homeless and Local Authorities.
The Charity has a web-site and if you click on the following link it will take you there where you can find out more about The Welfare Trust. http://www.shropshirewelfaretrust.co.uk/

The next meeting was just after lunch and involved the Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee held at the Guildhall. We had a long agenda and I just knew that I would not be able to stay until the end as I had another meeting at 3.30pm. What I can say is that the passion was there in all of the committee to get even further in the Heart of England in Bloom next year. I also feel that Shrewsbury is a community town and almost everyone would like to thank all of the staff for their commitment and hard work making Shrewsbury a ‘Town of Flowers’ making the ‘We’re Proud of Shrewsbury’ a focus poit for more of the community to Join the team. I am sure that there will be much more information and requests for volunteers as we enter the New Year. So keep an eye open. It was at this point that I had to leave and drive to Longden Road for my next meeting.

Christmas Toy Run. This meeting was held at Shropshire Councils Highways office in Longden Road, it was made up of two members of ‘Rainbringers’ Motorcycle Club, two members of the Highways Team, a Police officer and myself.
The meeting went well and that is all that I will say, as it was agreed at the meeting that an official press release would be issued by Rainbringers themselves, after being proofed by all parties. Untilthen all details of the meeting are exempt.

I did end up with this evening off the first one for a while. There was one thing that I noticed today whilst going from one venue to another, that was the number of times my path crossed the paths of other officers from Shropshire Council, one officer I felt was following me as they turned up at the same site but not the same meeting as I was attending. As a people watcher and from the Mayors Parlour whilst eating my lunch I saw said officers walking from their cars eating their lunch as they headed to their next meeting. I have to say that the dedication of our officers at both Shropshire & Shrewsbury Town Council is fantastic and set very high standards. I would like to say Thank you on behalf of the town for the hard work you all put in to make our town a place to be proud of.
Please have a look at the MAYORS CHARITY SPRING BALL page as I have added a preview of what the menu of the evening should look like. Please click on the following link to take you there. Thank you.
