FIRST STOP BMX TRACK REVAMP – OFFICIAL OPENING – AT MEOLE ESTATE.
Our first engagement of the day is to cut the ribbon and officially open the re-vamped BMX track on Meole Estate. I know the esatate well having lived on the estate for 16 years, so it was a chance to see how much had changed since I had left over 19 years ago, although I had visited the BMX track last year after the first stages had been done and I think it was one of only three engagements last year that it rained on us so we could not enjoy the site as much then as we could and did today.
It was nice to see how much had changed over twelve months let alone 19 years, the young people turned out and the sun shone so it was the perfect senario for fun times all around.
Below is a pictorial of what we could get on camera, both the Mayoress and myself were asked for autographs and for the address of my Blog site so that they could see the pictures we took. so no more ado surf through the pictures at your leisure and I hope you enjoy.
Also attending the opening were Shropshire Councillor Mike Owen, Shrewsbury Town Councillor and last years Mayor Cllr Kath Owen (Pictured on right of above picture) and Councillor for Bayston Hill Raebrook and Suton Cllr Ted Clarke.
We then had to leave or make tracks as one young person stated to us when we left. We had had a very enjoyable morning with everyone there, with the sun shining and happy faces what more could one ask for?

A TRIP DOWN THE OLD A5 TO WELLINGTON AND WREKIN COLLEGE FOR AN EVENING WITH FAY WELDON.
This evening we travelled down the A5 to Wrekin College Wellington for the launch of their Literacy Festival, The guest speaker was the Internationally known author Fay Weldon. My wife the Mayoress was really up for this as Fay Weldon is one of her favorite authors.
We had a chance over a drink to talk with her and her sharp mind made me feel pleased that she took up writing and not politics. She is the most lovely person you could wish to meet, and I am pleased to say that I have met with and talked with Fay Weldon, it was a true honour.
We then moved into the main theatre at the college where she was interviewed and answered questions from the guests that were there. She also talked about her new novel KEHUA! and what it was about, she also read a passage from the book.
Below are some pictures of the evening.
After the interview she signed her new novel KEHUA! for anyone who wished to buy a copy. I think almost everyone lined up for a signed copy, we did.
Above Fay Weldon signs a book for Tricia and kindly posed for this picture even though there were many behind waiting for their copy.
http://redmood.com/weldon/ This link does have some if not all of Fay Weldons books listed and some interesting snippits but it is an unofficial website by a fan of Fay Weldon.
Pictured above from Left to Right, Tricia Mayoress of Shrewsbury, Cllr Lesley Street Mayor of Wellington and Yours Truly Mayor of Shrewsbury,
Please do not take any notice of the dates on any of the past two days pictures as we are using a new camera after wearing out the old one and we might be able to drive a steam traction engine or a tank, but a new camera, well that is a bit much to expect at the moment. ;~D
We then travelled home under a lovely clear sky just full of stars. A fantastic evening I think enjoyed by all.
