19th APRIL 2012 BERWICK ESTATE RESIDENTS ENTERTAINED AT MAYORS PARLOUR

19th APRIL 2012 VISIT BY BERWICK ESTATE RESIDENTS TO THE MAYORS PARLOUR

Today we entertained the residents of Berwick Estate Alms Houses at the Mayors Parlour in the Guildhall. This was an invitation that I had passed onto the residents when we went on their annual trip last summer on the Severn Valley Steam Railway from Bridgnorth to Bewdley. We had a lovely trip with them and during one stop over I asked them if they would like to visit the Mayors Parlour then just let me know and we would arrange it.

Today was that day I gave them a talk about the Towns Silver collection and they had tea and biscuits. Thay stayed for about two hours and I understand that they really enjoyed the visit. Below is a group picture of that visit.

18th APRIL 2012  MAYORESS GOES OUT WITHOUT THE MAYOR

Today the Mayoress went to a Ladies day lunch at the Albright Hussey Hotel in aid of Relate. She took along our Daughter Katrina where they were able to get close up and personal with a fine display of diamonds brought by Boodles of Chester and after their lunch they listened to a talk from Paul Burrell ex butler to the Royal Household.

TEAS IN THE CASTLE

Whilst the Mayoress was at thei charity lunch I went to the castle and did my bit with our weekly teas in the castle where we invite people who are in and around the castle grounds for a cup of tea and some biscuits with the Mayor.

The trees that had been growing in the wall of the Bulls Head public house had been removed during the winter due to their roots undermining the Castle Walk and maybe the Castle has given the Mayors Parlour an added bonus, as the view from the window now becomes something of a feature, it also shows how well placed the castle was built to stop any form of attack on the town in centuries past. Below are some pictures showing the new view from the window without the trees.

With the removal of these trees it has made the Mayors Parlour a lot lighter. The logs that came from the felled trees made £357 on E-Bay and that went to Help the Heroes, so those old poor specimen trees that were becoming a danger have made some good from their logs.
